CASS COUNTY – Charges have come down against a man who authorities said killed two people while he was drunk.
Michael Stangel, 27, has been charged with eight counts of criminal vehicular homicide for the incident that happened on County Road 75 just north of the Palace Casino May 3.
The criminal complaint alleges Stangel was driving without headlights and interfering with other traffic.
A witness reported Stangel hit his car twice from behind, then turned on his headlights and passed at a high rate of speed.
Authorities said Stangel then crashed with a vehicle head-on, killing Lisa Collins, 47, and Timothy Collins, 46, both of Cass Lake.
Stangel's blood alcohol content was 0.33%, more than four times the legal limit, according to authorities.
Stangel's next court appearance is set for May 27.
