DULUTH - Elementary students got to spend some more time outside Wednesday to get out and get active. It was all part of Essentia's annual Fit–n–Fun Run.
1,900 Third, fourth and fifth graders got to run in quarter-mile races throughout the day for a chance to win t–shirts and ribbons as a way to celebrate the end of the school year.
"Really it's a culmination of a year-long effort in their physical education classes to encourage them to stay healthy and to show them that running and physical activity can be an enjoyable experience," Bob Gustafson from Grandma's Marathon said.
The Fit–n–Fun program started in 2008 and is aimed at motivating children to lead healthy lifestyles.
