Special Report: Reliable Restaurants: Part Two - Eddie's World Famous Ribs

SUPERIOR - In Part 2 of "Reliable Restaurants," FOX 21's Dan Hanger takes you to Eddie's World Famous Ribs in Superior that been serving up delicious dishes for decades.

Bob Brihan has been a top chef at Eddie's for 18 years and says a stack of tenderness ribs isn't slapped together in just a few minutes. We're talking more like seven hours from prep to oven to your mouth.

"I don't honestly think you could do it at home. There's something about here that makes them Eddie's ribs," Brihan said.

Dina Connor took over this 50s-themed supper club 18 years ago, and while she acknowledges it's more than a full-time job, the positives outweigh any negatives.

"It's homey, comfortable. It's like inviting a couple hundred people over every week, which is nice," Connor said.
Connor lives upstairs from the restaurant that's tucked away in this quiet superior neighborhood just off highways 2 and 53.

"I do everything. I bartend during the week and on the weekends greet people at the door, help the servers. If I have to help cook, I do. They don't want me to be back there, but I try to tell them what to do," Connor said.

And while the repeat customers are more loyal than ever, the reality of the tough restaurant business is very real and even getting worse in some ways.

"It is going to be interesting this summer with the prices where they are going with meat. But we can make a few changes that others can't because we are so small," Connor said.

So maybe small is the perfect recipe for success where places like Eddie's can give big portions and quality service while creating a one-of-a-kind dining experience.

"You have to be here, I think, almost on a daily basis to make sure. I think customers like to see you here," Connor said.

"It's old-time cooking, too. It's really what the Northland is all about," Brihan said.
