Gov. Walker Orders Flags Lowered for Former Gov. Lucey
MADISON – After issuing an executive order, Governor Scott Walker lowered the flags of the United States and of the State of Wisconsin, in honor of former Wisconsin Governor Patrick Lucey, beginning at sunrise on May 13, 2014 until the date of his burial.
Paul Lacey says his father died Saturday night at the age of 96 at the Milwaukee Catholic Home after a brief illness.
Lucey was elected governor in 1970 and won re-election in 1974, but left midway through his second term to serve as then-President Jimmy Carter's ambassador to Mexico.
“Governor Lucey was a dedicated public servant who loved Wisconsin and his country,” Governor Walker said. “His life was spent serving first in the United States Army, the Wisconsin State Assembly, as the Lieutenant Governor, as Governor, and finally as Ambassador of the United States to Mexico. Tonette and I extend our thoughts and prayers to the family of Governor Patrick Lucey, and I join with all Wisconsinites in honoring his legacy.”
