Gary New Duluth Community Center Gets Financial Boost

GARY NEW DULUTH- The vision for the community center includes a dog park, skate park, community gardens and a multi–purpose facility just to name a few.

ME Global donated $25,000 dollars to the project today.

Plant manager, Bill Grau, says he believes in giving back to the community that houses the foundry.

He contacted the owners of ME Global and got the green light to present the Gary New Duluth development alliance with the sizeable check.

GND Development Alliance chairman, Mark Boben said, "this recreation area was abandoned by the city in 2009. The city could no longer financially support this particular recreation area.

The GND Alliance says the donation has been a blessing.

"The community has nothing, so the community got together, and It is a community wide effort, to put a group together, develop plans and work on this project and have something for the community."

Boben says, people have rallied around the project because everybody in Gary will benefit from it.

He says they have already received more than $250,000 dollars in monetary and in–kind donations.
A new furnace has been donated and the city engineering department just recently completed drawings for a new water line that is needed.

They are hoping the city will help in constructing the water line.

For people who want to contribute, conations can be made to the GND Development Alliance at Park State Bank.

Folks looking to make in–kind donations can email the Alliance at GNDdevelopmentalliance@gmail.com
